# Choosing a Stablecoin to Integrate: What to Check Before You Commit

**Most stablecoin integration decisions are made on brand recognition and chain availability, which are the two least informative signals available. The questions that decide whether the integration survives contact with a regulator, an auditor or a redemption queue are: who issues it, under what license, what backs it, how fast you can get out, and what happens on the chain you picked. This page is the checklist, in the order the answers matter.**

## 1. Who is the issuer, legally

Not the brand. The entity. A stablecoin is a claim on a specific legal person, and in a failure that entity is who you have a claim against.

Find the operating company name and the jurisdiction it is licensed in. For XSGD the issuer operates as STRAITSX PAYMENT SERVICES PTE. LTD., licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore, and the license is checkable on the [regulator's own register](https://eservices.mas.gov.sg/fid/institution/detail/420460-STRAITSX-PAYMENT-SERVICES-PTE-LTD) rather than only on the issuer's marketing page.

**The check:** can you find the entity on a regulator's register, in a jurisdiction whose regime you understand? If the answer is no, everything below is unverifiable.

## 2. What actually backs it

There are several designs sold under one word. A fiat-backed token holds cash and equivalents against the float. An overcollateralized token holds volatile assets against a smaller float. An algorithmic token holds a mechanism. These fail in completely different ways, on completely different timescales.

For fiat-backed tokens, ask what the reserve is composed of, who holds it, and who attests to it and how often. XSGD reserves are held 1:1 and attested monthly by an ISCA-listed auditing firm, with reports published on the [official token page](https://www.straitsx.com/xsgd).

**The check:** read the attestation itself, not the claim that one exists. Confirm what is attested, as of what date, and by whom.

## 3. How you get out

Holding is easy. Redemption is where the design is tested.

Establish who can redeem, on what terms, and how long it takes. Some tokens are redeemable only by named institutional counterparties; everyone else exits through a secondary market at whatever price is available. That is a materially different instrument from one you can return to the issuer at par.

**The check:** can *your* entity redeem directly with the issuer? If not, your exit price is a market price, and you should plan for the case where the market is thin exactly when you need it.

## 4. Currency, and whether you need an FX leg

If your obligations are in Singapore dollars and you settle in a US dollar stablecoin, you have added a currency position to a payments problem. That may be an acceptable trade for liquidity. It should be a decision, not an accident.

A local-currency stablecoin removes the FX leg for local obligations, at the cost of a smaller pool of liquidity and fewer venues.

**The check:** write down the currency of the obligation you are settling. Match to it unless you have a reason not to.

## 5. Which chain, and what that commits you to

The same token on two chains is one claim in two places, and the differences are operational rather than economic: finality time, fee behavior under congestion, bridge dependencies, wallet and custody support, and which venues have real liquidity.

An earlier Zilliqa deployment is sunset, which is a useful reminder that chain lists in third-party trackers go stale: both CoinGecko and the issuer's own support article still listed it as live on 2026-08-03. **The check:** confirm the contract address against the issuer, character for character, and confirm your custodian supports that exact deployment. Do not take an address from a search result.

## 6. Where the liquidity actually is

A token can be live on eight chains with meaningful depth on two. Availability is not liquidity.

**The check:** look at real venue depth on the specific chain you will use, at the size you will actually trade, and check both directions. Entry liquidity and exit liquidity are not the same number.

## 7. Who you can call

**View.** This is the criterion people leave out and then regret. Stablecoin integrations generate questions that no documentation answers: an unusual redemption, a compliance query about a counterparty, a chain migration, a partner who needs an introduction. Whether the issuer has someone who picks up is a real input, and for a serious integration it belongs on the list alongside the reserve composition.
